UPDATE: Name released in the fatal accident on Hwy 82 W in Petty.
Brandon Smith of Brookston, TX, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been notified.
The other driver, Mr. Joe Kay of Honey Grove, TX has been taken to Paris Regional Medical Center in stable condition.
“Around 5:50 a.m. a 2008 Toyota Camry was driving northbound on CR 26718 and failed to yield at the stop sign on US 82,” said DPS Trooper Mark Tackett.
“The Camry was struck by a 2000 Dodge driven by Mr. Joe Kay of Honey Grove,” added Tackett.
Tackett said Mr. Smith was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.
BREAKING NEWS: There has been a two-vehicle wreck on Hwy 82 West in Petty. Officials say there was one fatality and one transported to the hospital.
TxDOT has the area down to one lane. Traffic is being diverted around the scene via a County Road.
