Last night’s Paris City Council Meeting was an eventful evening with several announcements and updates.

The recent municipal election results were canvassed, and the new Council Members were sworn in.  Joining the City Council are Renae Stone from District 1, Derrick Hughes from District 2, and Clayton Pilgrim from District 6.

Billy Trenado was elected to another term to represent District 3.  Dr. Steve Clifford was nominated for Mayor and won with a 4-3 vote.  Derrick Hughes, Paula Portugal, and Clayton Pilgrim were opposed. Derrick Hughes was then unanimously voted in as Mayor Pro Tem.

An update to the City’s Parks Master Plan was discussed, though only one citizen came forward to offer input.

A contract was authorized for professional services with Toole Design Group to help develop the Downtown Visioning Plan.  The contract amount is not to exceed $90,005, though all but $10,000 was raised via donations.  http://www.tooledesign.com/
The City believes that these services will be able to take the design of our downtown to “the next level.”  The downtown area in Sulphur Springs was given as an example.
The Council also approved an ordinance authorizing the issuance of a solid waste collection permit to Bradley Pennington d/b/a/ County Trash Service LLC
