Thousands of Texas licensed plumbers are set to converge on Gov. Greg Abbotts office in Austin-to call for a special session to overturn a ruling they feel should not have been passed last week during the legislative session.

“On and after September 1,2019, an individual does not need to be licensed by or registered with the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners to contract for, or perform, plumbing under state law,” a recent press release stated.

“We need all of Texas’ help and are asking the public to contact the Governor’s  office requesting he call for a special session immediately to implement plumbing regulation in our state,” William Heuberger said in a statement.

Furthermore in the official statement from the texaslicensedplumbers.com; stated the following, “untrained individuals will legally be able to work on medical gas in hospitals, this scenario is extremely dangerous. They will be able to install water heaters in residential homes that if not performed properly could explode and if not vented properly could cause the death of homeowners. These untrained individuals will be able to make repairs to, and install water piping, which will cause major property damage without proper training. Repairs to, and the installation of natural gas piping will be allowed by these persons who have no experience which could also cause deaths and/or major property damage directly to the structure being worked on as well as neighboring structures. Plumbers are trained and licensed to protect from and ensure that direct cross contamination does not occur between sanitary sewer (waste) water and potable drinking water in our private homes and commercial buildings. The duties of a plumber encompass all of these things a great deal more that are very serious and necessary in our communities, and is a defining factor of civilization as a whole.”

In the short time that Texas plumbers have had to rally, they not only have an abundance of information on their website, detailing the importance of doing away with the State Board of Plumbing examiners, they are also gaining thousands of signatures from all Texans to present and show Gov. Abbott should they get the opportunity.

As of Tuesday morning, the online petition has garnered more than 73,100 signatures in support of Texas plumbers.

The rally will be held friday June 14 at the The Texas State Capitol Building, 1100 Congress Ave, in Austin Texas starting at 11 a.m.

Organizers are asking plumbers and all Texans to show up, support and hopefully gain the attention of Gov. Abbott to hold a special session to overturn the abolishment of the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners.
