A Fannin County man facing manslaughter charges is back in custody after a standoff on Wednesday that ended after the suspect tried to flee on an ATV from his residence in Leonard.
According to the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office, 47-year old Jeromy Joe Spearman, who faces up to 20-years in prison in relation to a fatal hunting trip shooting in Oct. 2021, was scheduled for a court appearance Wednesday morning, after which was placed in confinement.
While waiting for deputies to arrive, officials said he somehow left the building and fled.
Shortly after 11 a.m., Spearman’s sister called authorities notifying them that he had returned home to the 1400 block of South Hwy 78 in Leonard.
Police were communicating with Spearman throughout the five to six hour standoff with him telling police he does not want to go back to jail and that he had a weapon in his possession.
Sometime after 5 p.m., Spearman left the home on an ATV, but only made it roughly a mile or so before he was taken into custody and transported to the Fannin County Jail.
