Shirley Marie King, 83 of Sumner, passed away Friday, March 27, 2026 at Medical City Plano.
A memorial service has been set for Friday, April 3, 2026 at Emberson Baptist Church at 11:00 AM with Dr. Gary Reed officiating. Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of cremation arrangements.
Shirley was born in Cooper, Texas to Curtis Lee and Doris Marie Phillips. She married Billy Joe King on April 29, 1961. He preceded her in death. Shirley worked as a Nurse for over 40 years. She was an active member of Emberson Baptist Church, where she loved to sing in the choir. She enjoyed sitting in the swing under her oak trees, enjoying God’s beautiful creation. Shirley loved animals and loved to take care of them. Even in her death, she is taking care of animals. Her pacemaker was donated to Texas A&M Veterinary Department to be used in the medical care of animals.
She is survived by her children, Susan Schmidt and husband J.J., LeAnn McGuire; grandchildren, Tanner Schmidt, Dalton Schmidt, Zachary McIntire, Ashley Bailey, Jonathon King; great-grandchildren, Caden Bailey, Camrin Bailey; siblings, Danny Phillips and wife Janice, Lola Stidham, Bill Phillips and wife Stella, Sarah George; daughter-in-law, Sandi King and Wayne Moore; numerous other extended family members, many special friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Joe King; son, Brad King; father, Curtis Phillips and wife Ollie; mother, Doris McClarty and husband Eugene; brother, Ronnie McClarty.
