An individual contacted the department this morning regarding a scam attempt. In the phone call, the caller identified themselves as being with a government agency which needed to verify some personal information. A reference was made regarding social security administration SSI.
The person who received the call refused to give any information which brought the caller to start making threats of filing charges, being found guilty of crimes for not cooperating and the party would soon be in jail.
“The person who received this call did the totally correct thing of not giving any personal information over the phone,” said Chief Hundley.
Please remember in the days we live in, everyone including the government is quite aware of the attempts to scam people out of their personal information or money. Many if not all will not even ask these questions unless you call them.
