On Sunday, commissioners from each of the Power 5 conferences held an emergency meeting to weigh options amidst the coronavirus pandemic. Commissioners discussed the possibilities of either postponing all NCAA fall sports to the spring or canceling each fall sports season altogether, including college football.
The group of Power 5 officials did not make any major decision Sunday night, but sources first told ESPN the conferences have a desire to make a joint decision on the fate of fall sports in 2020. Sources also confirmed to ESPN that the Big Ten is in a position to pull the plug on fall sports after presidents in the conference met on Saturday night, but an official vote or decision was not made.
According to several other ESPN sources, cancellation or postponement “seems inevitable” over the past 48 hours, and if the Power 5 conferences do not make a decision jointly, then one of either the Big Ten or Pac 12 conferences would be the first to make an official decision.
