A suspect was shot and killed by a Paris Police Officer Thursday night after he came at the officer brandishing two large knives.
The shooting happened in the 200 block of E. Sherman Street around 11:41 p.m.
“A patrol officer initiated a traffic stop and at first the driver of the vehicle refused to exit the vehicle and was uncooperative,” said Chief Bob Hundley.
Hundley said the initial officer asked for a backup unit. A second officer arrived and while talking with the driver, the driver exited the vehicle and displayed two large knives in a threatening manner to the officers.
“After many commands to drop the weapons and not to come any closer, the suspect started towards the officers and was shot.”
The suspect was transported by EMS to a local hospital where he died.
The officers did not sustain any injuries.
Both officers have been placed on administrative leave and the Texas Rangers will investigate the shooting.
The name of the deceased is not being released until family notifications are complete.
