A Paris police officer was taken to Paris Regional Medical Center on Friday after being attacked in the city jail.

The incident happened around 9:50 a.m. in the city jail. Chief of Police Bob Hundley said the officer, who was not named, was in the city jail to take a prisoner for arraignment.

“As the officer opened the jail door, the prisoner, Freddy Garcia 29 of Paris, rushed and attacked the officer,” said Hundley.

Hundley said the officer defended himself as other officers were called to the jail for assistance.

Garcia was returned to a cell.

“The officer was taken to the hospital and treated for a bite, scratches, and a fractured finger,” Hundley stated.

Garcia is now facing additional charges.
