Lucille Couch Pickering, a kind-hearted, soft-spoken peacemaker, celebrated her 100th birthday today.
Originally from Arkansas, Lucille moved to Deport, Texas, in the 40s until just a few years ago.
“The secret to living long is to eat oatmeal and a little bit of sausage for breakfast every morning.”
According to her granddaughter, Vicki Couch Ballard, Lucille has always been a kind-hearted, soft-spoken who considers herself a peacemaker. She is also a lifelong member of The United Methodist Church of Deport.
When she was 50, Lucille went back to school and became a nurse.
“She loves to sing – always singing at the nursing home,” Vicki said. “Some days it’s hymns and other days it’s Hank Williams Junior.”
