“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusteth in Thee.” Isaiah 26:3
This verse sustained Pat Books throughout her lifetime. It will ours too.
Patsy Jane Smart Books passed from this earth on October 24, 2024.
She was born on February 10, 1934, to Vernon Samuel Smart and Mary West Smart in the home of her grandparents, Frank and Cellia West, in Howland, TX. The roads were too muddy to get to the hospital in Paris. On August 2, 1953, she married a handsome young sailor in the U.S. Navy stationed in Newport, RI that she had met while attending Paris High School and Paris Junior College. Upon being discharged from the Navy, they made their home in Paris. During their 71 years of marriage, she loved and served her Savior, Jesus Christ at 1st Baptist Church as well as Springlake Baptist Church in her later years. She enjoyed being a part of the community while attending and serving as a member of not only her church groups but also the Good Earth Garden Club, C’est La Vie, The Lamar County Historical Society and a supper club of the sweetest friends on earth. She proudly and faithfully worked for Dr. Earl Bellamy for decades.
Pat is survived by her husband Glen; her daughter, Kathy McMonigle and husband Bruce; 2 grandchildren, Patrick McMonigle of Midland, TX, as well as Paige Crail and husband Brad of Van Alstyne, TX; along with her 2 great-grandchildren, Aaron and Maggie Crail. She also loved and enjoyed her remaining extended family of in-laws and cousins. While not actually physically related, she cherished and considered their old Navy friends and their children as family also.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Bill and Russell Books as well as precious aunts, uncles and cousins. At the age of 90, many friends and family await her in Heaven, but some still remain. You know who you are. Trust us… she loved you too and enjoyed every visit, phone conversation, and meal at one of our local eating establishments.
Thanks to all who loved her and made her life richer – yes, her family, dear friends, and the host of nurses, aides and staff at Brentwood Terrace and Heart to Heart Hospice.
A graveside service has been set for Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Evergreen Cemetery Open Air Chapel with Rev. Guille Seigler officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery thirty minutes prior to the service.
