Friday, September 13, 2024; An officer received a report of a stolen vehicle from the 2600 block of Lamar Avenue. The victim had left the vehicle running as he went into a store. The suspect, Sunnie Amanda Smith (41) entered the unlocked vehicle and drove it away. The reporting officer reviewed video of the theft and gave a suspect description to other officers. Auto Theft Task Force Officers named a possible suspect as Sunnie Smith. Later that same day the reporting officer observed Smith riding a bicycle and wearing the same clothing as the time of the theft. She was detained. Auto Theft Task Force Officers questioned Smith who admitted the theft and gave the location of the vehicle. Smith was charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and booked. The vehicle was returned to the owner.
Saturday, September 14, 2024; Officers responded to the 3800 block of Lamar Avenue on a shoplifting complaint. Wesley Frank Freeland (51) and Angela Marie Freeland (42) had been detained by loss prevention personnel after they were observed “Skip scanning” items and failing to pay for them. Both suspects were arrested for Class B Theft. A later criminal history check revealed that Wesley Freeland had two prior convictions for theft and his charge was elevated to a State Jail Felony. Both suspects were booked without further incident.
Saturday, September 14, 2024; Paris Police Officers responded to a shots fired call in the 800 block of Deshong Drive. They encountered Adrian Jose Loftin (17) who was evading Lamar County Deputies, who were attempting to detain him. Loftin was taken into custody while attempting to scale a fence into the Park Gardens North Apartment Complex. Loftin advised that he had a handgun that he had dropped during his evasion. The handgun was recovered in a parking lot near the area Loftin was apprehended. Loftin was charged with Evading Arrest on Foot and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon. He was booked without incident.
Sunday, September 15, 2024; A moving violation brought officers into contact with Jacob Daniel Zuniga (26) in the 10 block of Pine Bluff St. The officer smelled marijuana in Zuniga’s vehicle and Zuniga admitted to smoking marijuana recently. Zuniga gave the officer permission to search the vehicle for more contraband. A small amount of what tested positive for cocaine was located in Zuniga’s wallet. He was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and booked without incident.
Officers made 26 traffic stops, 10 adult arrest, and answered 335 calls for service for this reporting period.
