On June 26, Officers responded to the 1600 block of NE 17th in regards to a reckless driver. The went to the area and located a vehicle with tire damage in the 700 block of 8th NE. The driver, Melissa Marie Long (40), was contacted and was found to be severely intoxicated. Long admitted to having taken prescription narcotics as well as imbibing alcoholic beverages. Long was unable to stand on her own and had to be assisted into the police vehicle. She was taken to a medical facility for a blood draw, then booked and placed in jail. Long was charged with Driving While Intoxicated. It was learned that Long had two previous DWI convictions and the charge was enhanced to a Felony DWI.
On June 26, an officer received a report of a Theft of Narcotics from a Healthcare Facility in the 1000 block of Clarksville St. According to the victim, they had turned in some pain medication at the facility to a known employee because it was making them ill. The patient had requested a different type of medication. The victim/patient later was informed that the employee she had turned her medication over to had not turned it in and had kept the medication. This investigation is related to another theft of narcotics at the same location from a previous date. The suspect employee has been terminated and is under police investigation.
On June 27, at 01:54 an officer on routine patrol in the 700 block of 5th NE observed a subject, later identified as Ricky Glen Walters (64) working on a bicycle. The officer initiated contact with Walters to check his welfare. Walters was allowed to leave. Immediately afterwards, the officer received information that Walters had outstanding warrants had an outstanding warrant from another agency. Walters was located in the 500 block of NE 6th. When advised of the warrants and the impending arrest, Walters fled on foot. He was caught but resisted arrest by pulling away and physically resisting the officers attempt to handcuff him. Walters was eventually placed into handcuffs and transported to the city jail for booking. Upon search at the jail, Walters was found to be in possession of methamphetamine, cocaine, and marijuana as well as over 400.00 in cash. He was charged with Manufacture Delivery of a Controlled Substance X2, Evading Arrest or Detention, Possession of Marijuana, and the outside agency warrant for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He was booked without further incident.
