On July 5, officers stopped a vehicle for expired registration in the 300 block of SW 9th Street and made contact with Kevin Shawn Barrow (37). Barrow was found to be in possession of a syringe containing methamphetamine. He was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and arrested without incident.
On July 5, a traffic stop in the in the 300 block of Tudor St for failure to display a license plate. The driver, Casey Dajuan Sanders (45) was contacted. The smell of marijuana was evident and Sanders admitted to having smoked marijuana earlier. Sanders was detained and a search of the vehicle was conducted in which prescription medications, not prescribed to Sanders, Methamphetamine, and other illegal narcotics were located. Also located were several items of paraphernalia used for the intake of the illegal substances. A bag of Marijuana was also located. During the search of the vehicle, Sanders attempted to flee on foot but was immediately taken into custody. Sanders was taken to the city jail. During the transport, Sanders was observed reaching into his pants. Once at the station, he was searched and it was discovered that he had more narcotics (Methamphetamine) concealed inside his body in a plastic baggie. Sanders was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance X 3, Possession of a prohibited substance in a correctional facility, Possession of Marijuana, and Evading Arrest or Detention.
On July 5, an officer attempted to stop a vehicle in the 10 block of N. Main Street that was driving with numerous equipment violations. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Marcus Dewayne Smith (31) failed to stop until another police unit blocked his path in the 500 block of E. Hickory. Smith was arrested for Evading Arrest in a Vehicle. It was found that Smith had two previous convictions for Evading Arrest in a vehicle. He was filed on for the enhanced felony charge.
On July 6, Joquan Deontrae Wallace (29) was arrested on a warrant for Fraudulent Use or Possession of Identifying Information. He was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation in the 1600 block of N. Main. This arrest was the result of a 2022 case in which Wallace was suspect in a forgery incident in which stolen checks were forged and passed on an elderly individual. Another suspect had been arrested in April 2023 and a third is at large.
Officers responded to 47 City Ordinance Violations from July 3 through July 4.
Officers made 125 traffic stops, 13 adult arrest, and answered 275 calls for service for this reporting period.
