On July 29, Officers received a report of a Burglary of a building in the 2200 block of Hubbard. The victim advised that some unknown person had entered his garage and stolen a battery powered push mower as well as two battery chargers. The victim advised that the door would not lock and therefore the suspect had to merely lift the door to access the stolen property. The serial number of the mower was entered into National Data Base.
On July 29, Officers responded to a disturbance in the 500 block of NE 14th. They spoke with witnesses who advised that a known suspect had been arguing with a female victim and had intentionally backed into the victim with a vehicle, striking her in the leg with the vehicle. The female victim refused to give any information to officers with the exception that the suspect lived with her at the address and that they were in a relationship. The victim declined cooperate and claimed she had no interest in pursuing charges but due to the felonious nature of the assault, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a report was made. The incident is under investigation.
On July 30, Officers on patrol in the 2500 block of N. Main heard a female screaming in the area. They observed and then made contact with a female identified as Samatha Lue Hawthorn (38) of Lubbock Texas. As the officers approached Hawthorn they observed her to discard an item. The item was recovered by officers and found to be a pouch containing methamphetamine as well as paraphernalia for the use of the drug. Hawthorn was placed under arrest. As officers attempted to handcuff Hawthorn she began to resist the arrest, pulling away and refusing to place her hands behind her back. Officers handcuffed Hawthorn and transported her to the police department where she was charged with Tampering With Evidence, Resisting Arrest, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
