On Feb. 4, Officers investigated an embezzlement/Theft case in the 1300 block of Clarksville St. An employee of a business at that location had stolen a large quantity of money, over $2500.00, from the business over the past several months. The employee had access to the funds by reason of their job description and function. The incident was investigated by Store Loss Prevention Employees and then reported to police. The incident remains under investigation.
On Feb. 5, Jasmine Desiree Johnson (29) was arrested on a Motion to Revoke warrant out of Wood County for the charge of Driving While Intoxicated with a Child in the Vehicle. She was processed without incident and taken to Lamar County Jail.
On Feb. 5, Dana Samwell Carmichael (44) of Paris was arrested in the 1800 block of Lamar Avenue after officers responded to a call of a welfare concern. Carmichael was unresponsive and appeared to be under the influence of some unknown substance. Paris EMS was contacted and responded to the scene. As the officer was checking Carmichael’s belongings for identification, he located narcotics inside a bag that was with Carmichael. When EMS arrived, Carmichael regained consciousness and advised that he didn’t know where he was or how he had gotten there. Carmichael claimed ownership of the bag and a bicycle that was at the scene but denied knowledge of the narcotics. Carmichael was arrested for Public Intoxication and Possession of a Controlled Substance. He refused medical treatment and was processed uneventfully.
On Feb. 5, Officers responded to a Sexual Assault incident occurring in the SE area of the city. The victim reported that they had been physically assaulted by the known suspect, Steven Michael Harris-Mills (38) of Paris. The victim was in an argument with Harris-Mills which escalated. When the victim attempted to call police Harris-Mills took the victim’s phone and then choked and sexually assaulted them. Harris-Mills then took cash from the victim’s wallet and left the area. Evidence was collected at the scene and the victim was transported to a medical facility. Harris-Mills was located by officers several blocks away from the scene of the incident. When questioned, he denied the incident. Due to physical evidence, he was taken into custody and charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault and Interference with an Emergency Phone Call. The case remains under investigation.
