On Feb. 13, Officers arrested Gregory Darnell Akins (63) for an outstanding Parole warrant in the 600 block of Martin Luther King Drive after checking on a suspicious activity incident in the area. He was taken into custody without incident and transferred to Lamar County.
On Feb. 13, Officers responded to the 900 block of Clarksville in regards to a theft. Two suspects had taken over 100.00 in merchandise and left the store without paying. A suspect description was obtained and the suspects were located in the 600 block of SW 7th Street. The were identified as Randy Lee Sanders (55) and Ruby Penny Washington (57). Subjects were identified by video camera as the two who had committed the theft. Both were arrested and charged with Theft. Class B Theft was filed on Sanders. It was discovered that Washington had at least two prior convictions for theft and she was filed on for Theft under 2500.00 with 2 priors, a felony. Both were transported to Paris Jail for booking.
On Feb. 13, Officers of the NE Texas Auto Theft Task Force responded to a local wrecker company lot in regards to a suspicious vehicle recovery. The officer learned that the company had towed a vehicle from the 1300 block of Clarksville St. with a false license plate. A check revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen out of Durant Oklahoma. Through investigation it was discovered that the vehicle had been abandoned in late December. Officer contact had been made with the occupants prior to the vehicle being abandoned. Detectives are reviewing the evidence and the incident is under investigation.
On Feb. 13, a theft of vehicle was reported in the 1800 block of Maple Avenue. The victim left his 2009 Dodge Challenger in the driveway with the key in the ignition. An unknown suspect entered the vehicle and took it without permission. A suspect description was obtained and a BOLO “Be on the lookout” for the vehicle was issued. The vehicle was later located in the 1300 block of NW 11th by officers of the NE Texas Auto Theft Task Force. Evidence was collected from the vehicle and the vehicle was released to the owner. Jewelry and a cash card were stolen from the vehicle. The investigation will continue.
