On Aug. 22, Officers responded to a call of a welfare concern in the 400 block of SW 1st St. Officers contacted the victim, who was in a verbal altercation with the suspect, Magic Laone McCarty (44). While officers were trying to gather information, Magic McCarty entered a residence in the 600 block of SW 1st and then exited with a handgun in his hand. McCarty began to brandish the weapon, causing the officers and the victim to fear serious bodily injury. Officers attempted to de-escalate the incident and McCarty finally took the weapon back into the house. Officers place McCarty under arrest for Terroristic Threat to Family Member and to a Peace Officer. McCarty resisted arrest but was eventually placed under officer control and taken into custody. The victim advised that McCarty had assaulted her by choking her with his hands. There was physical evidence to support the claims. McCarty was charged with Assault of a Family Member by Impeding Breath, Terroristic Threat to Public Servant and Family Member, and Resisting Arrest.
On Aug. 23, a Paris Police Officer stopped a vehicle in which Miranda Ra’Nell Thomas (35) was a passenger. Thomas voluntarily identified herself as Latessa Bridgers. Subsequent research revealed that Thomas was giving a false name and that she had an outstanding warrant for Possession of a Controlled Substance out of Hopkins County Texas. She was charged with the warrant as well as Fail to Identify as a Fugitive From Justice. The was booked without incident.
On Aug. 22,Carson Tyler Thomson (23) was arrested and charged with Indecency with a Child after evidence was presented indicating that he had engaged in prohibited contact with a child under 14 years of age. The investigation is open and further charges may be sought. Due to the nature of the case, no further information is available.
A report of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle was received in the 3200 block of Clarksville St. The victim advised that a family friend had left her residence on August 17, 2024 driving her 2015 Cadillac Vehicle. The victim advised that the suspect, has indicated that he has no plans to return the vehicle and that he was headed to SanAngelo. The suspect did not have permission to drive the vehicle. The vehicle was entered in Nationwide Computer as Stolen. The department received information that Texas DPS had made contact with the vehicle on August 20, 2024 in El Paso Texas. The incident is currently under investigation and the vehicle is still at large.
