Are you interested in a career in Emergency Services? Do you want to help your Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) with important First Responder skills? Does your business, school, or organization need a certified Emergency Medical Responder for safety coverage? The Paris EMS Reserves working with Paris EMS and Paris Junior College (PJC) are announcing an upcoming Emergency Care Attendant class, also referred to as Emergency Medical Responder, starting on September 2nd.

The class is a beginner level course into the world of EMS. Once completing the course members will have the skills and knowledge base that is necessary to pass the National Registry test. It is a great introductory class for High School students that are interested in a career in Emergency Services or as a First Responder.

Classes will be held at PJC 2 evenings a week over a 6-week time frame with two Saturday class days. From the course syllabus, it states the description of the class: Basic first responder course in basic emergency medical care. Emphasis on requirements of national and state accrediting agencies. With these Learning Outcomes: The student will display a working knowledge of clinical information and related topics relevant to the practice of pre-hospital emergency medical care at the emergency care attendant (ECA) level; demonstrate the ability to competently perform all applicable skills, and exhibit attitudes and behavior consistent with the ethics and professionalism expected of the emergency care attendant.

Some of the areas covered in the class include: Safety and Wellness, EMS System Communications, Medical Legal/Ethics, Medical Terminology, Cardiac Emergencies, Airway Management and Respiratory, Scene Management, Shock and Resuscitation, Bone and Soft Tissue Injuries, Trauma Injuries, Child and Elderly Assessments, and EMS Operations that cover Incident Management, Multiple Casualties, Air Medical, Vehicle Extraction, Hazardous Materials, and Natural Disasters Incidents.

Students must be at least 17 years of age to attend. Members of VFD’s may be eligible for a tuition grant from the state. Cost of class is yet to be determined and will be based on the amount of students that sign up. If you are interested, please contact Curt Dickinson, President of Paris EMS Reserves, at 903-517-9049 or email curt2607@icloud.com There will be a meeting held for anyone interested on July 29th at 6 p.m. at the EMS Transfer Station, 2460 Lamar Avenue across from the Dairy Queen.

Once completed, members will be eligible to join the Paris EMS Reserves.
