The first week of school at North Lamar ISD was an exciting and productive start as students dove into hands-on learning experiences across various grade levels.
In Mrs. Cannada’s class, students explored the concepts of vertical and horizontal lines in a fun and tactile way, using play-dough to reinforce their understanding. This creative approach allowed students to visualize and manipulate the lines, making the learning process both enjoyable and effective.
Mrs. London’s first grade class embraced movement as a tool for learning phonics, building words through active engagement. The integration of movement into the lesson helped to enhance students’ understanding of phonics while keeping them energized and focused.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Creamer’s second grade GT students took a deep dive into critical thinking with the book “Sarabella’s Thinking Cap.” After reading and discussing Depth and Complexity Questions, the students made their own thinking caps, a creative exercise that encouraged them to think outside the box and apply their newfound knowledge in an imaginative way.
Miss Bridgers’ science classes took a collaborative approach to learning, with students taking turns teaching their classmates about various science vocabulary words and safety procedures. This peer-teaching method fostered a sense of responsibility and reinforced their understanding of important scientific concepts.
In Ms. Sillivan’s third grade class, students enjoyed a day of reading and puzzles in the hub, combining literacy with problem-solving activities that engaged their critical thinking skills.
North Lamar ISD is excited to witness the enthusiasm and creativity displayed in classrooms from the very beginning of the school year. The teachers have excelled in crafting lessons that are both educational and engaging, establishing a positive and dynamic atmosphere that will continue throughout the year.
