North Lamar ISD Head Football Coach Brenton Whitaker announced his resignation on his personal Facebook page Friday morning.
“From the very first ‘Panthers & Pancakes’ to the final game of this past season, it has been my honor and privilege to serve as the Head Football Coach for the North Lamar Panthers,” said Whitaker on social media.
In May 2021, Whitaker came to North Lamar ISD from Pittsburg ISD, where he was the Offensive Coordinator/Offensive Line Coach.
“Abby, the kids, and I showed up in the summer of 2021 and went full steam ahead with the goal of building a football program that the North Lamar community would be proud of.”
Whitaker graduated from Royce City High School before earning his Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska, where he played college football. Prior to his time in Pittsburg, Whitaker spent time in Palestine, Carrollton Farmers Branch and Marshall.
“To all the current and former players I’ve had the honor to coach, Thank You! Thank you for attacking everyday and showing up to ‘Do The Hard Stuff’ to help earn the respect this program now has. Y’all made the last three years an unforgettable experience! I love each and everyone of you. As of this morning, I have resigned my position as the head football coach.”
NLISD has not released a statement on the announcement, nor has a replacement been announced.
