Two musicians from the North Lamar High School band will perform as part of the Mount Vernon Music Concert series on April 14 at 3:00 p.m. or June 1 at 7:30 p.m. in Mount Vernon, Texas, at the Mount Vernon Music Hall.
Colton Wilson, left, a senior trombonist, and Dylan Halliday, a junior bass-trombonist, both submitted video performances, written resumes and biographies, and completed a short application as consideration for the honor.
“These two young men practice a lot on their instruments,” said Jason R. Smith, associate band director at NLHS. “It is great to see them being rewarded for their musical abilities by a wonderful organization in Northeast Texas.”
The Mount Vernon Music Association sponsors a scholarship competition every year for young musicians ages 10 to18. Students eligible for the scholarship, ranging from $50 to $500, may perform with voice, piano, strings, woodwinds, brass, and/or percussion. This year 12 students were awarded scholarships with four being named as distinguished and asked to perform at the Mount Vernon Music Concert to showcase their talents.
Those selected to perform at a Mount Vernon Music Concert in addition to Wilson and Halliday were Lucas Condor, on marimba from Commerce, and Chase Crouch, a cellist from Sulphur Springs. The community concerts are scheduled April through June.
Other 2019 awardees were Caroline Baird, clarinetist from DeKalb, Craig Crawford, pianist
from Texarkana, Jameson Gaertner, violinist from Mt. Pleasant, Cody Jenkins, bass clarinetist from Commerce, Ian Kowalczyk, violinist from Greenville, Savannah Lilley, pianist from Sulphur Springs, and two violinists from Atlanta, Clare Wong andVincent Wong.
