The Texas High School Coaches Association has released their 2021 Academic All-State Football Teams. North Lamar High School senior Dawson Dority was named to the 2nd Team.
At the end of each sport’s season, the THSCA, in conjunction with the Texas Army National Guard, makes their selections from students who have been nominated by their coaches. Student-athletes, managers and trainers are selected for the teams based on a points system in the following categories: overall grade-point average, class rank and ACT/SAT score. To be nominated, the students must be in good standing with their team, be of good moral character and have an overall GPA of 92 or higher.
The award recognizes the hard work of the student-athletes and their ability to juggle the pressures of playing on a team and managing demanding school work at the same time.
Head Football Coach Brenton Whitaker said, “Dawson is everything you want as an athlete in your program. Over his time at North Lamar he has played football, basketball, track, and baseball. Speaking from a football perspective he was the perfect leader for us this year. His toughness was on display every game and his teammates rallied behind him. After looking at his academic standing I knew he would meet the requirements for Academic All-State. I was excited to be able to nominate him for this honor and elated when I saw he was awarded 2nd Team Academic All-State! I know this young man has a bright future ahead of him and can’t wait to see what he accomplishes!”
