Netflix is testing a new feature on its side possibly limiting subscribers who share their passwords.
The company has mostly ignored the self-proclaimed issue, however, it is no longer.
Some users have reported seeing a screen stating, “If you don’t live with the owner of this account, you need your own account to keep watching.”
According to Netflix’s terms and conditions, the services and its content are “for your personal and non-commercial use only and may not be shared with individuals beyond your household.”
The test Netflix has been experimenting with is not so different from two-factor authentication. The service will ask if the watcher is the owner and ask to confirm through an emailed or texted code.
“The test is designed to help ensure that people using Netflix accounts are authorized to do so,” the company said in a statement.
