Over the summer, art students from North Lamar High School completed a mural that had been in the works since the 2017-2018 school year.
Four students, Kareagin Allison, Alex Copeland, Stephen Stewart,and Emily Brownfield and NLHS art instructor Brandi Peel worked over the summer to bring the mural to reality. The mural is visible to anyone entering the high school or walking the halls.
“The plan for a mural has been in the works for the past three years,” said Peel. “When I began working here, I made it my mission to complete the project.”
Stewart, who graduated in May, had some ideas that led the group to discuss the mural with principal Clay Scarborough.
“He wanted the core values and core purpose included in the mural,” said Peel. From there the vision developed.
“We wanted all areas of our school to feel included and to provide a colorful and inspirational view for people entering the building. We hope that as people enter they see what we stand for and truly see the integrity of our school,” she said.
The art students began sketching the mural around the middle of last year. Due to student activities, a majority of the work was done over the summer. Peel estimated over forty-eight hours went into painting the mural.
