Paris Police attempted to make a traffic stop on a motorcyclist in the 100 block of SE 17th St at 11:18 P.M. on January 10, 2019.
“The motorcyclist then attempted to evade the officer by accelerating away from him,” said Officer Curtis Garrett. “After about a 6 block chase, the motorcycle crashed in the 1900 block of Lamar Ave and the driver fled on foot.”
The cyclist was located hiding in some bushes behind a residence in the 10 block of NE 20th St and arrested.
Jeffery Dewayne Whitehead, 32, was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
“During the foot chase, officers located a pistol that Whitehead either dropped or threw down.”
Whitehead was charged with evading arrest with a vehicle with a previous conviction, possession of a firearm by a felon, m manufacturing or delivering a controlled substance of more than 1 gram but less than 4 grams, possession of drug paraphernalia, displaying a fictitious motor vehicle registration (due to altering the registration sticker), and evading arrest or detention.
Whitehead was later transferred to the Lamar County Jail.
