A memorial shirt honoring fallen Paris firefighter Layton Slade Baker is now available online.

Baker, who has been with the Paris Fire Department since 2017, was killed in a single-vehicle wreck on Oct. 20.

“He was an excellent firefighter, always striving to better himself both professionally and as a person,” said interim Fire Chief Thomas McMonigle, “Slade loved life and was always smiling, yet he was the first to offer help to anyone who needed it. He had a true servant’s heart. No matter whether you were lucky enough to either know Slade on a personal basis or had met him in passing, he left a lasting impression on all.”

As the department mourns the loss of one of their own, friends and family have come together to raise money for Baker’s family by selling shirts honoring the much-loved firefighter.

“We picked LSU colors because he was the biggest fan we knew,” said a Paris firefighter wife, “Slade would drop anything and everything to help anyone in need and was truly one of the nicest people I have ever met. This was just one way I thought I might be able to help his family during such a tragic time.”

The shirts are $30 each and are available in sizes small through 3XL. Proceeds from these shirts will be given to the Baker family.

“Please keep the Baker family, the Paris Fire Department, and anyone who was lucky enough to have met Slade in your prayers.”
