In Loving Memory
Melvin Clayton Hornbuckle
June 7, 1955 – September 29, 2026
Melvin Clayton Hornbuckle, lovingly known as Clayton, was born on June 7, 1955, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Melvin and Hallie Hornbuckle. He passed away on September 29, 2026, in Sherman, Texas, leaving behind a lifetime of memories and a family who loved him deeply.
Clayton was a hardworking man who spent his entire life working in construction. He was proud of his work and never shied away from hard work. When he wasn’t working, you could usually find Clayton doing something he loved—enjoying the outdoors, talking about Fords, drinking a cold root beer, or simply spending time with the people who meant the most to him.
But more than anything, Clayton loved his family. His wife, children, and grandchildren were his greatest treasures. His grandchildren brought a special kind of happiness to his life, and the memories he made with them will be cherished forever.
Clayton is survived by his loving wife, Krista Hornbuckle.
He is survived by his daughters, Haven Hostetler and Timothy, Taylor Dake and Jacob, and Hallie Hornbuckle; his sons, William Hornbuckle and Jordan Story; and Jaedon Murphey and Sam, whom he loved like a son.
His grandchildren, Clayton, Payton, Legend, Legacy, William, Taylor, Chandler, Krystlynn, Keysten, Ares, Hutson, and Riley, will forever carry the memories and love he gave them.
He is also survived by his sisters, Anita Schickedanz and David, Barbra LeFlore, and Peggy Herrman; his best friend, Ed Mottwiler and Vanessa; brothers-in-law Dustin Lloyd and Thaddeus Sharp and Jinnie; sisters-in-law Jamie Lloyd and Ashley Sharp; and nieces and nephews and many other family members and friends who were blessed to know him.
Clayton was preceded in death by his daughter, LaRanda Story; granddaughter, Taylor Hornbuckle; and brother, Billy Hornbuckle and by both of his parents.
In Loving Memory
A husband.
A father.
A grandfather.
A brother.
A friend.
A hardworking man with a big heart and a love for the simple things in life.
Clayton may no longer be sitting beside us, sharing a story, enjoying the outdoors, talking about his beloved Fords, or sipping on a cold root beer—but the love he gave us will never leave.
His hands may be at rest, but the work of his life lives on through the family he loved.
The memories made, the lessons taught, the laughter shared, and the love he gave will remain in our hearts forever.
We will miss his presence, his stories, his smile, and all the little things that made him who he was.
Until we meet again, Clayton.
You will forever be loved, forever be missed, and forever be a part of us.
Rest in Peace
Clayton will be laid to rest at Restland Cemetery in Roxton, Texas. Family night Saturday October 3, 2026, 6-8 p.m. and services Sunday October 4, 2026, 2 p.m. at Bright-Holland Funeral Home.
