An informative meeting on a proposed wind farm being built in Fannin and Lamar County, with approx. 800ft. wind turbines, has been set for Jan. 23, 2024, at the Red River Valley Fairgrounds, 570 E Center Street in Paris, at 7 p.m.
While there has been talk over the past several years, resistance against the wind farm has gained traction as more details have come to light on the estimated $250 million project.
During a meeting on Nov. 27, 2023, Lamar County Commissioners discussed the tax abatement application by Bug Tussle Wind LLC, who plans between 50 and 60 wind turbines, a substation, and operation and maintenance buildings.
According to Garrett Peters, senior manager of KE Andrews & Company, a consulting company based in Austin, the project would bring 10 permanent high paying jobs.
Bonham resident, Chris Wilson, who first heard of the project just hours before a town hall meeting in Bonham in 2022, will be the guest speaker at the event in Paris on Jan. 23.
After the majority of the attendees at that town hall (in 2022) opposed to the wind farm, Wilson started a petition against the proposal on ipetitions, along with an informative website, www.0windfarms.com.
“The signatures on the petition are residents and landowners, as well as taxpayers of Fannin and Lamar County, Texas. We do not support the type of wind development being planned, which we believe will have negative impacts to the environment, economy, and quality of life in our communities,” said Wilson on the petition.

If approved, construction would begin in this year, and be operational by 2026.
