Mavis Hoskins “Auntie” Miller, 82, of Paris, passed away Monday, November 20, 2023, at Paris Regional Health.
Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled services for 1:00 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24th at Springlake Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Clark & Bro. Delvin Hoskins officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Red River County. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Friday.
Mrs. Miller, the daughter of John Allen Hoskins, II & Edna H. Clark Hoskins, was born Sept. 7, 1941, in the Addielou Community of Red River County, TX.
Mavis graduated from Detroit High School and then began a career in secretarial work. Over the years, she worked at many businesses and offices and at the time of her passing was the secretary at Springlake Baptist Church. She was also secretary for the Bethel Cemetery Association and the Red Oak Cemetery Association. She was a member of Springlake Baptist Church where she had served as treasurer and served on the church council.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Gilbert Oscar Miller, her parents, and siblings, J. A. Hoskins, Christine Nelms, and Mary Nell Dorse.
Survivors include three siblings, Rose Roberts & husband Jesse, Dwight Hoskins, and Larry Hoskins & wife Mary Ann, numerous nieces & nephews including a special niece, Annette White, two special great nieces, Joy White and Jordan White, a very special great great niece who was the apple of Mavis’ eye, Abby Sills, and her best friend, Dolores Eudy along with a host of church family and friends.
Casket bearers will be: Justin Marco, Justin Sills, Christian Cheek, Chance Copeland, Cary Lott, & Levi Hoskins. Delvin Hoskins will serve as an honorary bearer.
