Emergency personnel was dispatched to the 15000 block of 82 West on Tuesday at about 9 p.m., where it was reported a pickup truck struck a tractor from behind, ejecting the tractor’s driver who was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Texas DPS Communications Sgt. Josue De La Cerda, the preliminary investigation indicated both the 2021 Chevrolet 2500 and Mahindra 8000 Tractor were traveling west on U.S.-82, about three miles east of Petty, when the Chevrolet’s driver struck the tractor from behind.
Paris Fire Department’s Rescue 1 arrived to assist with traffic control, provide manpower and lighting/electrical power for the accident. The tractor, according to Paris Fire Department, was leaning on its left side with the front off the ground with “major damage to the rear.” The pickup had major damage to its front-middle and passenger side front.
“The driver of the Mahindra Tractor (38-year-old Jake Rempel, of Honey Grove) was ejected during the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” De La Cerda said.
The driver of the 2021 Chevrolet, James Christy, 35 of Honey Grove, suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
Other agencies who assisted with the scene included Brookston and Roxton VFDs, Lamar County Sheriff’s Office and Paris EMS.
The wreck’s investigation continues.
