The Main Street Paris Arts Movement has completed a groundbreaking public art installation, creating the city’s very first crosswalk mural in downtown Paris this past weekend. The colorful street art now adorns the intersection of 1st Street NW and Price Street, directly adjacent to the Art de Parc.
The striking mural transforms the ordinary crosswalk into a canvas of Texas-inspired imagery, featuring brilliant golden sun beams radiating across the pavement, native bluebonnets in full bloom, and a delicate butterfly that appears to dance across the street. The artwork spans the entire width of the crosswalk, creating an immersive experience for pedestrians and a visual landmark for the downtown district.
“This crosswalk mural represents more than just beautiful art – it’s a symbol of our community’s commitment to creativity and place-making,” said Mary Hart, Co-Chair of MainStreet Advisory Board, and Paris Arts Movement Committee Chair. “By transforming everyday infrastructure into artistic expression, we’re inviting residents and visitors to see our downtown in a new light.” Hart designed the artwork and led the volunteer team through the installation process.
The project was completed entirely by volunteer artists and community members over the weekend, including Mary Hart, Mario Munguia Jr., Melissa Jones, Suzanna Coyle, Emily Downs, Todd Downs, Kim Kalina, and Cheri Bedford, Main Street Coordinator. The team used specialized road-safe paints designed to withstand weather and foot traffic while maintaining vibrant colors. The location was strategically chosen for its proximity to Art de Parc, creating a cohesive arts corridor in the heart of downtown.
“The crosswalk art is part of Main Street’s broader initiative to enhance the downtown area through public art installations,” said Cheri Bedford, Director of Main Street. “The organization aims to foster community pride, attract visitors, and support local economic development through creative placemaking.
The new crosswalk mural is now open for public enjoyment and is expected to become a popular photography destination and gathering spot for community events. Grace Logan volunteered her photography services to document the project.
The initiative was made possible through the generous support of sponsors Paris MainStreet, Plaza Art Guild, Paris Area Arts Alliance and City of Paris.
