Lauretha Kay White (nee Woods) passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2025. She was born to Beulah James (B.J.) Woods and Correne Idell Wilson on September 29, 1941.
Kay began sewing for her family at 12 years old. After the death of her first husband, she began sewing for her friends and neighbors to make a living, and continued sewing for the public until she closed the doors of her alterations/consignment shop, Kay’s Alterations, in 2022. Although Kay initially began working as a seamstress making dresses and men’s clothing, she included wedding and prom dressmaking for years, until she decided to primarily focus on alterations at which time she established her alterations business. Kay’s reputation for solving complicated alteration issues resulted in her having clients from as far away as Houston, Texas and many towns in Oklahoma. She was without a doubt a gifted seamstress and problem-solver who also had a creative flare resulted in her former clients being so disappointed when she decided to retire.
Kay’s sense of humor, easy smile, and kind heart will be sorely missed by all those who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her father, mother, three brothers, Ardin Ray Woods, James Doyle Woods, and Tommy Doyle Woods, husbands Billy Joe Carmon, Sr., Leonard B. Jones, and Burle White. She leaves behind her three children, daughter Jolinda Sopko of Alexandria, Virginia, son Jody Carmon and daughter Jeanine Plummer, both of Paris, Texas. Additionally, she is survived by seven sisters, Fay Taylor, Julia Dawes, Jenna Armstrong, Sue Woods, Jean Sparks, Ann Burgin, Pam Oyler, and two brothers Ray (Porky) Woods and Keeven Woods; nine grandchildren; Kory Carmon, Morgan Sopko, Kameron Carmon, KaLeigh Welch, Karli Jo Carmon Dauernheim, Krisi Carmon Spillman , Lindsay Sopko, Cheyenne Plummer, and David Sopko, Jr., and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at The Saving Grace Ministries, 901 19th St. NW, Paris, TX 75460, with doors opening for those wishing to give their condolences to the family from 1:00-2:00 p.m.
