Joy, a daughter to Roy Garland Preston and Clara Louise Fudge Preston, was born on November 7, 1953 in Clayton, New Mexico. She spent her early childhood in New Mexico riding horses and herding cattle on the ranch with her daddy. She moved with her family to Texas as a teen where she lived the remainder of her life. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crafts and most of all her family.
Joy was a caregiver to all and a nurse for nearly fifty years. Many times, she said that she was going to take care of God’s children as long as the Lord would let her. Not only did she care for her patients but also for her friends, children, grandchildren and most importantly her husband. She loved passing her knowledge on to others in addition to being a caregiver and nurse. She spent her nursing career working in many hospitals, including St Joseph and Paris Regional here in Paris where she was a supervisor, The Baylor Heart Hospital in Plano in the ICU and she also worked as hospice nurse and a travel nurse. Joy also thoroughly enjoyed her time as an LVN instructor at Paris Junior College. She also really enjoyed the time spent on medical mission trips with the church.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister who died at birth. Joy married Glen Barnett on March 11, 2000. He survives her along with her 2 two sons, Jerry McClour and Bradley McClour, 2 “bonus” daughters, Valerie Barnett and Wendy Barnett, nine grandchildren, Tyler McClour, Damian McClour, Mystin McClour, Marlee Speer, Preston McClour, Lucas Speer, Joseph “Ely” Speer, Cheyann Phillips, and Hunter Tate and one great-grandson, Waylon Colt McClour along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
