Jorita Edwards-Lamberson, stepped into heaven on Sunday, December 17, 2023 with family by her side.
The family will receive friends Thursday, December 21 from 6:00-7:00 pm at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home. The service will be held on Friday, December 22 at 10:00 am, also at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home, with Barry Boswell officiating. Burial will follow at Hopewell Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are John Lohrey, Caleb Lohrey, Cayden Lohrey, Jon Boehlar, GaitzBoehlar, Johnny Lamberson, and Shelbey Boswell.
Jorita was born on September 5, 1937 in Wilson, TX to Walter Lee Edwards and Myrtle Bell Gosnell. She attended public schools in Slaton, TX. Jorita met the love of her life Wiley Lamberson, and they married on September 13, 1953. They were members of Family Worship Center in Paris, TX. Jorita worked at a cleaners in Slaton, TX. Upon moving to Texas, she worked at Unique Cleaners as well as Staley’s BBQ. Jorita and Wiley also owned and operated the Hopewell Store for five years. Besides being a homemaker, doting wife, and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Jorita had many talents and interests. She was a talented seamstress, made numerous beautifully intricate hand-made quilts, painted ceramics, crocheted, and was an amazing baker and cook. She was especially known for her homemade pies. At Christmas she would spend countless hours making various homemade candies to give family, friends, and neighbors. Jorita also enjoyed camping, which she and Wiley did as often as they could, with their many camping buddies.
She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband of 68 years Wiley Phillip Lamberson; three brothers, Luther Leroy Edwards, Alton Edwards, and James Edwards; and two sisters, Anna Bell Luman and Lavern Roberts.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna Boswell and husband Barry, and Darla Jones and fiancé Jack Latham; four grandchildren, Michael Boswell and wife Christa, Amanda Lohrey and husband John, Steven Methven, and Stephanie Boehlar and husband Jon; seven great-grandchildren, Shelbey Boswell, Caleb Lohrey, Cayden Lohrey, Caidyn Herber Boswell, Gaitz Boehlar, Makinley Boswell, and Gia Boehlar; many precious nieces and nephews; and a host of special friends.
A special thank you to Jorita’s caregivers who became like family to us all, Brandalynn Decker, Shirley Savage, Rhoda McDowell, Maritza “Pook” Franklin, and Wendy Knight. The love and care you gave will never be forgotten.
