Jerry Sam Barnes, 83, of Paris, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Heritage House of Paris.
Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 14th at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Bro. Jamie Mathis officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home thirty minutes prior to the service. Burial will be made in Bluff Cemetery.
Mr. Barnes, the son of Homer Barnes and Pauline Coffman Barnes, was born Jan. 26, 1942, in Annona, TX.
He graduated from Detroit High School where he excelled at basketball. His career with Merchant Motor Lines in Irving, TX spanned 40 years before his retirement. He then worked three years at Coffman Motor Company. Jerry was an avid golfer, enjoyed NASCAR, and eating a peanut butter sandwich while watching the Dallas Cowboys. His granddaughter and great grandchildren were the light of his life. He was a member of Lamar Avenue Church of Christ.
His parents, a son, Sammy Barnes, and his sister, Paula Sue preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Marlynn Oleta Miller Barnes, whom he married in 1958, building 67 years of family and memories, a daughter, Aimee S. Cobb and husband Steve, a granddaughter, Shara S. Sullins and husband Ken and two great grandchildren, Blake A. Sullins and Claire Elizabeth Sullins along with several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Latchkey Program at Lamar Avenue Church of Christ, 3535 Lamar Ave., Paris, TX 75460.
