Jay Lynn Meek, 75, of Powderly, passed away Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024, at Paris Regional Health.
Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled services for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20th at Chisum Trails Cowboy Church with James McLeod officiating. Burial will follow in Red Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Jay, the son of Jess Meek & Beatrice Gὃrts Meek, was born Oct. 14, 1948, in Enid, OK.
He graduated from Red Oak High School in Red Oak, OK and majored in Mechanical Engineering Technology at Eastern Oklahoma State College. Jay began working at Weyerhaeuser in Wright City, OK. In 1982, he came to Paris and helped open the Kimberly-Clark plant where he remained until his retirement in 2012.
Jay was a talented photographer, enjoyed riding motorcycles and was an avid fisherman. He was a member of Chisum Trails Cowboy Church. He loved to help with benefits, especially in cooking, whether it be with a benefit for someone from Kimberly-Clark, a school function, the concession stand at a football game or play day at the church. Jay and Daphana volunteered and were camp hosts at Pat Mayse Lake where they made many friends.
Survivors include his wife, Daphana Lawler, whom he married on August 6, 1971, building 52 years of family and memories, twin daughters, Saundra Ashton (Bret) and Shanna McEwin (Chris), grandchildren, Cameron Ashton (Kristen), Dylan McEwin, Tyler Ashton (Kassidy), Blayne Willison, Alexis Willison, Rhet Ashton, Elijah McEwin, and Paisley McEwin, seven great grandchildren, Copper Ashton, Jaxon Ashton, Kinslee Ashton, Hadley Willison, Hayden King, Harper King, and Hadli King, two siblings, Jess Lee “Buddy” Meek, Jr. (Debbie) and Terry Joe Meek and a sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Robbie & Leroy Caplinger along with several nieces & nephews and a plethora of friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Chisum Trails Cowboy Church, 3575 FM 2648, Powderly, TX 75473.
