Jackie W. Compton, 77, of Tyler, TX, (formally of Paris, TX) passed away on January 16, 2024. He was born on September 12, 1946, in Hartshorne, OK. Jack was a loving and steady rock for his entire family. His wisdom and comforting presence made him the go-to person for advice and support. Many affectionately called him “Daddy Jack,” and he considered them all his extended family.
Jack is survived by his devoted spouse, Sue (Thompson) Compton, and his children Keith (Angela) Compton, Amy (Chris) Walker, Jana House and Clint House (who also became their daughter and son). He was a cherished grandfather to Callie White, Austin Sugg (Taylor), Natalee Walker, Jackson Walker, Dylan Tyndell
(Morgan), Kailee Guillebeau , Colton House, and Cortney House. Additionally, Jack leaves behind seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Carolyn Murphy, Janice Woods, Barbara McVicker, and Patsy Baley along with numerous nieces and nephews that were a big part of his life.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jack Compton, his mother, Mae (Young) Compton, his brother, Charles Compton, and his sister, Sherry House.
Jack attended Reno Elementary School, Paris High School and Paris Junior College. He served in the National Guard from 1968 to 1971. Following his military service, Jack had a successful career, working at Southwestern Bell from 1968 to 1973, TXDOT from 1973 to 1976, and Oak Farms Dairy from 1976 until his retirement in 2007.
Jack was an active member of South Springs Baptist Church, where he found solace and community. He enjoyed hunting, vacationing and spending time with family and friends.
A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at 3:00 PM at South Springs Baptist Church in Tyler, TX. Prior to the service, there will be a visitation period starting one hour earlier.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Gideon International, Boys and Girls Club of Paris, TX, or Children’s Village in Tyler, TX.
