Floyd Amos “Buddy” Humphrey, 73, passed away on Sunday, July 26, at his home while surrounded by family.
Buddy was the son of Floyd W. Humphrey and Ethel Juanita Hutson Humphrey and was born on August 17, 1952 in Lamar County, Texas. He married Pamela Wesley on March 18, 1983 and the couple built 43 years together.
He was the type to never meet a stranger and he loved children. He liked to sit on his porch and gossip with neighbors. His friends visiting meant a lot to him. Even when he wasn’t sitting on the porch, his neighbors would wave and honk as they drove by. When Pamela mentioned this to him, he said “I guess they must be crazy” and laughed.
Buddy worked with Boss Plumbing and Norwoods for several years. He also worked as a house leveler with Weldon Henshaw. He liked to haul junk iron and finally, he started his own wrecker service. When his health began to decline, he sold his wrecker. If he couldn’t drive it, he didn’t want to see it sitting there.
Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Ethel Humphrey; sisters, Shirley Coomer and brother-in-law, Johnny Commer, sister, JoAnn Hess and husband, James; brother, Donnie Humphrey.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela; son, Joey Don Humphrey; special nieces, Melanie Taylor, Tyree Hearn and Ty’shiana; great-niece, his Rosebud, Bethanie Nichols and husband, Anthony Thomas ; great-great nieces, Maudiana and Ariana; brother, David Humphrey and wife, Vicki; sisters, Cletta Mathis and husband, Roger, and Kathy Henry; several nieces and nephews he loved very much and a host of special cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 3rd at 11:00 AM in Fry Gibbs Funeral Home.
