Honey Grove Police Chief Leigh Dixon thanked the community for their support after an officer was shot Tuesday night while sending condolences to the man who lost his life after an overnight standoff.
“First, I would like to thank the community for the support for Officer Pruiett and his family, the Honey Grove Police family, and the individual officers, and Constable Mayberry and his family.”
Beginning Tuesday night, a man barricaded himself in a Honey Grove home, allegedly shooting a Honey Grove officer in the leg, sending him to the hospital. After about 10 hours, the standoff came to an end when officers entered the home at 9:20 a.m., finding the man deceased.
“I want to extend my condolences to the family of Mr. Dambrogio. We don’t always understand what people may be going through and why things happen,” Dixon posted on Honey Grove PD’s social media Thursday evening. “Our pledge is to serve and protect each of our citizens regardless of who they are or what they may be going through. We strive to be compassionate and understanding in every way.”
Dixon asked the community to “life up both families at this time” and to not pass judgement on anyone.
“Everyone has dark days and light days. Most people are only known by their smiling days but in the days when it is most needed, no one sees the darkness. Our community is so blessed to have such great people that care for one another. This is time when we need to show the love that we all say we have for one another. Let’s show the rest of the world what love is and why we are the sweetest town in Texas. I love each and everyone of you regardless of how we encounter each other,” Dixon said.
