As millions have already received a third stimulus check, many others continue to wait for theirs to either be mailed or deposited. However, the Internal Revenue Service has a way to track the status of the stimulus payments.
The tool, Get My Payment, set up by the IRS, allows people to see whether their payment is on its way, scheduled to arrive or if there is a delay.
The U.S. Treasury Department said earlier today that the next batch of EIPs will be issued later this week, “with many of these coming by paper check or prepaid debit card.”
“For taxpayers receiving direct deposit, this batch of payments began processing on Friday and will have an official pay date of Wednesday, March 24, with some people seeing these in their accounts earlier, potentially as provisional or pending deposits. A large number of this latest batch of payments will also be mailed, so taxpayers who do not receive a direct deposit by March 24 should watch the mail carefully in the coming weeks for a paper check or a prepaid debit card, known as an Economic Impact Payment Card, or EIP Card.”
The first batch of stimulus payments have been sent by direct deposit, which some received about 10 days ago. Other batches continue to be sent out by either direct deposit or through the mail as a check or debit card, according to the IRS.
As the first and second economic impact payments no longer appear on Get My Payment, users can view or create an online account to check on previous payment statuses. The IRS also offers the 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit, which will be claimed on the 2020 taxes. Bear in mind, the third payment will not be used to calculate the 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit.
