Established with the objective of promoting environmental awareness and conservation among the youth, the Lamar
County Soil and Water Conservation Essay Contest has been inspiring young minds to reflect deeply on the need for
ecological balance.
This year, the contest was swept by a bright young light from North Lamar ISD who has demonstrated keen insight into the critical importance of conserving trees.
Garrett, who took home a well-deserved prize of $150, had written an illuminating essay on the role that trees play in maintaining a healthy and diverse ecosystem.
The student’s work resonated strongly with the contest’s objective of fostering an understanding and appreciation of conservation efforts among the younger generation.
In his winning essay, Garrett effectively brought to light the essential role that trees play in supporting an array of
wildlife species.
He painted a vivid picture of how trees provide food, shelter, and breeding sites for a wide variety of creatures.
His work underlined the message that the felling of trees not only affects the trees themselves but also has far-reaching impacts on the entire ecosystem.
