Fumiko Akahira Martin, 85, of Paris, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025. Born on June 20, 1939, in Okinawa, Japan, she was the beloved daughter of Yoshi Nakamoto Akahira and Tadashi Akahira. She was the third of seven siblings: Seichi Akahira, Hatsu Shinzato, Hideko Yokota, Katsuko Tokumon, Shoichi Nakamoto, and Mineko Nakamoto.
In the spring of 1961, in Naha, Okinawa, Japan, she married the love of her life, Charles E. Martin, a proud Marine stationed in Okinawa. Their love brought them to the United States, where they settled in his hometown of Paris, Texas, in 1971. Together, they raised a devoted daughter, Hiromi Martin Gibson.
A dedicated wife and homemaker, Fumiko created a home filled with love and tradition. Her family was her greatest joy, and she found pride and love in her daughter, Hiromi, and son-in-law, Craig Gibson. She was a devoted grandmother to Melissa Gordon and husband, Ryan of Blossom, Shawn Steinkamp and wife, Chylsea of Blossom, and Ashley Johnson and husband, Shane of Oklahoma City. Fumiko was also a doting great-grandmother to Austen & Abram Gordon and Charlie & August Johnson. She cherished her family dearly and found immense happiness in their lives and accomplishments.
Her legacy is one of love, resilience, and devotion. She will be remembered for her spirit, her deep connection to her Okinawan roots, and her unwavering dedication to her family. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
A burial will take place on Friday, January 24th at 2:00 PM at Meadowbrook Gardens in Paris, Texas.
