As several local firefighters returned home on Sunday after fighting fires in West Texas for the past three weeks, four more deployed on Saturday to assist with ongoing wildfires in Louisiana.
Powderly Fire Chief Tyler Bussell, and Captain Matt Barbee, Captain Drew Boren and firefighter Zach Beal with the Paris Fire Department are helping fight the Ida Fire as part of the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System.
As of Monday, Aug. 28, 2023, the Ida Fire in Vernon County, Louisiana, is 40% contained, burning a reported 3,950 acres, according to Wildfire Aware.
On Sunday, Deputy Chief Randy Crawford and firefighter Logan Lane with the Paris Fire Department returned home after assisting fighting fires in the Austin area before moving to Jasper County to assist crews there with the Shearwood Creek Fire.
Lamar County Emergency Management Coordinator Quincy Blount also returned from a 21-day deployment, assisting with multiple fires across West Texas.
