Six Lamar County volunteer fire departments took down a fire at Metro Gate early this morning.
At about 2:55 a.m. on Wednesday, Brookston, Roxton, Hopewell, Lamar Point, Tigertown and Faught volunteer fire departments responded to a structure fire near the 12000 block of US-82 West.
“The fire is undetermined,” Roxton VFD Captain Brent Cooper said, “it appears the heaviest fire load was in the front of the building around the break room area.”
Cooper said there was no one working when the fire broke out.
“It’s my understanding that a deputy driving by did discover the fire,” he said.
Cooper said Honey Grove Fire Department was en route to the structure fire, however, they were not needed as crews on scene had enough apparatus and personnel.
“We had a very good response from all departments – man-power wise,” he said. “Everyone did a great job and the fire was put out quickly.”
Crews were on scene for about two and a half hours.
