Around 9 a.m. Saturday morning, the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office, Bonham medic units and Trenton VFD responded to a residence on County Road 4605, just outside of Trenton.

According to the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office, a father allegedly shot his son after getting into an altercation with him.

“The father, 70-year-old Joseph Down Day was at his residence when his son, 37-year-old Wilson J Day, caused him to fear for his safety which made him shoot Wilson,” said FCSO Lt. Frank Deater.

The father then called 911 to report the incident.

The shooting is under investigation by the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The father was not arrested and it is not clear what started the altercation.
