It’s a game that’s boomed in the past few years and soon Paris will have eight new Pickleball courts set to be built at at the Love Civic Center, east of the Pump Track and Pavilion parking lot.
The courts will feature slotted windscreen fencing, lighting for evening use, shaded bench seating for players, four sections of shaded bleacher seating for spectators, and ADA-accessible ramps.
Pickleball is a racket or paddle sport in which two players or four players hit a perforated, hollow plastic ball with paddles over a 34-inch-high net until one side is unable to return the ball or commits a rule infraction. Pickleball is played indoors and outdoors.
Paris Texas Pickleball, a non-profit group of Paris area Pickleball enthusiasts, is providing the $547,839.96 construction cost for the project.
A groundbreaking ceremony has been set for Monday, May 20, at 2 p.m. at the Sports Complex Pickleball Courts, 2005 S. Collegiate Drive.
The courts will be built by Pro Tech Track & Tennis, Inc., of Tyler, Texas.
