Sunday, July 1, Dr. Randy Johns will preach his first sermon as the new Preaching Minister at Lamar Avenue Church of Christ.

Greg Mayes, Chairman, Minister Search Committee said, “As members of the selection committee, we are pleased to see the culmination of nearly a year of diligent work come to a positive conclusion. Lamar Avenue’s search committee, besides building relationships within the group, was the beneficiary of witnessing what God and His Spirit can accomplish through his people. We have the utmost confidence in God’s selection of Randy and Loree and are prepared to continue our work to aid in the transition process over the next year.”

For the past seven years, Johns and his wife, Loree, have served with the Mayfair Church of Christ in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. During his 33 year career in ministry, Johns has served churches in Edmond, OK, Mansfield, TX, Tulsa, OK and worked with the Lamar Avenue Church as a Youth Minister and Associate Minister from 1985-92.

The new minister noted, “Loree and I are thrilled to return to both Lamar Avenue and the city of Paris. With both of our sons having been born in Paris and having been nurtured by the Lamar Avenue church as a young minister, Paris has always felt like home. We are anxious to renew old relationships, establish new ones, and work together in the congregation and the community to share the love of God and the hope He provides through Jesus.”

Born in Pampa, TX Johns grew up in Ada, OK. He earned his BS degree in Mathematics from East Central University, Ada, and his MA degree in Biblical and Related Studies from Abilene Christian University. He finished his M.Div. degree at Harding School of Theology, Memphis, TN and received his Doctorate of Ministry June 9, 2018, from the Northern Seminary, Lombard, IL.

The Johns have been married for 37 years and have two sons. Luke Johns, and wife, Lindsey, have been married 7 years and have one son Jett who turns three in August. They are in the process of relocating somewhere in Texas. Taylor Johns and his wife, Katie, have been married 4 years and live in Malibu.

Mrs. Johns is a well-respected interior decorator and looks forward to serving the Paris, Lamar County and Northeast Texas area.

Both of the couple’s parents still live in Ada, OK.
