Doyle Wayne Hays passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on May 22, 2025 at the age of 81. He was born to Clifford and Laura Edna (Stewart) Hays on November 11, 1943.
Doyle grew up in Sulphur Bluff, TX where he attended public school and later worked at Lone Star Gas in Paris, where he served in many capacities for 32 years until his retirement.
To know Doyle was to love him. He was pure country with a heart of gold and a friend to everyone, especially those in need.
Doyle married the love of his life, Sue Smith on October 24, 1969, building 55 years of a wonderful, fulfilling marriage. Together they were partners, although often Doyle would exasperatingly say, “Sue is going to do what Sue wants to do.” He was a patient man. His three children were a source of pride and joy, giving him much comfort in his elder years. Some of his favorite things were water skiing, fishing, fish fries, trail rides, 42, southern gospel music, visiting with friends, and philosphying with his “McDonald’s buddies” about what was wrong with the world. In his later years he LOVED watching RFD TV, much to Sue’s annoyance.
He is survived by his wife, Sue; daughter Laura Haag and husband, Mike; Bart Hays; Keilye Hays and fiancé, Parker Boney; and his 4 cherished grandchildren: Kennedey, Brady, Landry and Kendall.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, May 25, 2025 at North Hopkins Cemetery in Birthright, TX. Bright-Holland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
