District competition rages on for local volleyball teams with a fresh slate of games taking place at 6 p.m. tonight. In both Classes 3A and 4A, playoff seeding and much more are on the line when the area volleyball teams take the court.
Class 4A volleyball
On Friday, the Paris Lady Wildcats lost at home in straight sets to crosstown rival North Lamar. The Pantherettes’ straight-sets win evened both teams’ district records at 2-2. The Pantherettes are nearly two weeks removed from a COVID-19 hiatus as they look to continue their resurgent play.
North Lamar was scheduled to play tonight at Pittsburg. Now, that game will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17 due to a mandatory quarantine for Pittsburg. The Pantherettes will resume district play at 4:30 p.m. Friday at home against Liberty-Eylau.
On the other hand, North Lamar snapped Paris’ two-game winning streak in the rivalry. In addition to this, the Lady ’Cats dropped two of their first three district home games. The Lady ‘Cats won the district last season and must defend their home court to keep their repeat hopes alive. Paris aims to get on track at home against Pleasant Grove on Teacher Appreciation Night.
Class 3A volleyball
Meanwhile, the district competition rages on in Class 3A. The top-seeded Prairiland Lady Patriots have a bye in their schedule. The Lady Patriots do not have an opponent tonight but will play their final four district games in Pattonville. Prairiland will host the first of their final four home games at 4:30 p.m. Friday against Commerce.
While Prairiland has a bye, rival Chisum will be in action. The Lady Mustangs had another impressive outing against a strong opponent. On its home court, Chisum pushed second-place Emory Rains to four close sets on Friday. Chisum started off the year at 8-0, but has just three wins in its last 10 outings. Now, the Lady Mustangs still seek their second district win at Edgewood. For more sports coverage, click here.
